****Update****
As of January 18, 2011, Vermont Overland has discontinued it’s guide services. It seems that a number of local people have objected to the use of the land for sightseeing, and have requested they not “trespass”.

It was back in 1991. I was living in NJ, and riding full time. I was having a great season, and getting to train with some of the best riders in the nation. On this particular day, I left Morristown and met up with Gavin O’Grady in Boonton. We headed north to New York State.
Some where around Tuxedo, NY I started to falter a bit. Wasn’t really bonking, but we were starting to hit the point of no return for me. Seeing that I was struggling, Gavin turned to me and said ” if you want to get there, you’re going to have to pedal”.

That phrase has stuck with me for these last 16 years. And to tell you the truth, I apply it to alot of what I do today. In fact, I’m basing my whole life’s turn around by it. People have really gotten to the point of expecting everything in life to be handed to them without doing the work to get it. How did we get to this point? What happened to working hard and the feeling of accomplishment? I’m not sure if the blame should lie with the individual, or the establishment. If going to go with a bit of both. I think we’re not demanding enough of ourselves, and of others. As a father, I find myself trying to teach my son to be the strongest and most honest person he can be. I’m trying to show him to achieve things in his life, and to feel good about it.

Affect change in your life, be positive, be strong and live the life that you want.
